VEI is a global network of student-run businesses. Its simulated business environment is designed to simulate the functions and demands of a real-world enterprise. Students are responsible for the management, growth and performance of their company. This network connects nearly four thousand student-run businesses in more than forty countries. In a true business simulation, students experience the global economy and learn by doing trading across borders. The competition was held on March 22 at Long Island University’s Brooklyn Campus.

 

VE was introduced as a capstone course in 2012. The first classes created their businesses from scratch. Then, they handed them off to subsequent classes to expand their product lines and refine their business philosophies. Enrollment in the VE program has grown, and new companies have been added every year. While the concept behind the VE business plan competition is still evolving, the program has made significant progress in educating young entrepreneurs. The winning teams were Prizm and Zenith, Westhampton Beach High School, Elmont Memorial High School, Calhoun High School, Mepham High School, Hewlett High, and East Islip High School. For each school, the winning team was selected. It is not easy to win the grand prize, but the VEI competition is a great way to show your students that a high-quality business idea can turn into a successful business venture.

AP Venture Experience (VEI)
