Ricky Watson, JR, Executive Director of the National Juvenile Justice Network and a former North Carolina Assistant Public Defender, is one of the recent graduates of the Youth Justice Leadership Institute. He has a wealth of experience in the field of juvenile justice, including serving as an assistant public defender and working in the federal courts. The National Juvenile Justice Network's Youth Justice Leadership Institute

The National Juvenile Justice Network (NJJN) announced the 2019-2020 cohort of the Youth Justice Leadership Institute. Joshua Branch, a Zubrow Fellow at the Juvenile Law Center in Baltimore, is the first in the cohort. His advocacy project aims to end juvenile fines in Maryland. Arnold Ventures is funding his project. The National JJN runs the Youth Just Leadership Institute, which provides general guidance and context for the cohort. It also provides access to current leaders in the field, as well as strategic advice.

Diana Onley-Campbell, the coordinator of the Youth Justice Leadership Institute, will lead two webinars to provide more information about the program. The deadline for applications is April 25, 2017. During the Youth Justice Leadership Institute, participants will discuss the current state of juvenile justice in Kentucky. The state continues to implement its juvenile justice reforms passed in 2014, and it is looking to add to them with additional policy changes such as SB 270. As a result, SB 270 focuses on the perspectives of youth of color. The YJLI provides an opportunity to grow emerging advocates of color into strong leaders. You can apply by April 25.
