The AAI Foundation offers a new scholarship opportunity: the Helen Abbott Community Service Awards. The program recognizes students who have done community service through their field of study. There are several ways to apply for this prestigious award, including organizing community projects and tutoring programs. The scholarship requires an essay of 700 words that discusses how the field of study will serve as a springboard for a lifetime of service. The essay should also highlight the applicant’s identity.

Helen Abbott Community Service Awards

The Helen Abbott Community Service Awards recognize outstanding high school and college students who have performed community service through volunteerism and other endeavors. This award consists of two $1,000 individual prizes and one $500 grant for a high school student to use toward an education. Eligible projects include ethnic outreach, recycling, tutoring, food/toy drives, and more. Nominations are now being accepted for the 2020 awards cycle. Applicants must submit an application before March 1, 2020. Those selected for finalist consideration will be notified by April.

AAIF Youth Leadership Scholarship

The AAIF’s youth leadership scholarship program recognizes individuals who are committed to community service and who have demonstrated the ability to achieve their goals. To apply for this scholarship, high school and college students must have participated in organized community projects, such as tutoring programs, food/toy drives, and ethnic outreach. Additionally, students must submit a 700-word essay explaining how their chosen field of study will provide a springboard for a life of community service.

Helen Abbott Community Service Awards

The Helen Abbott Community Service Awards honor exceptional Arab Americans under the age of 30 who have distinguished themselves through community service and selfless acts of kindness. These awards are presented to high school and college students and can range from a simple recycling program to a tutoring program to ethnic outreach. High school students are encouraged to apply, as there is a maximum of three $1,000 prizes to be awarded. The deadline for the application is March 1, 2020. A review committee will select finalists, and successful applicants will be notified by April 2020.

For the fall semester, you must submit your application by June 1, and for the spring semester, you must submit it by Oct. 1. SMYAL LGBT Youth Leadership Awards

The SMYAL LGBT Youth Leadership Awards recognize exceptional student leadership, and provide college scholarships worth up to $25,000 to 5-8 students each year. The organization also runs leadership “boot camps” for aspiring student leaders. The 2016 awards will honor five student leaders from the Washington, DC metro area. This year’s recipients will receive the scholarship money to help pay for school. Read on to learn more about this unique opportunity.

SMYAL is committed to creating a safe, positive and affirming environment for LGBTQ youth. In addition to awarding awards to young leaders, SMYAL offers free therapy services and provides educational resources to help youth thrive and achieve their goals. Through the SMYAL LGBT Youth Leadership Awards, these young leaders will have the opportunity to share their leadership skills and inspire others with their own stories. The SMYAL Executive Director cultivates relationships with a broad constituency and serves as the organization’s primary spokesperson. She also oversees SMYAL’s brand, scales its staffing model, and builds community engagement. The Executive Director is a champion for the LGBTQ+ community, and will be inspired by the opportunity to empower queer youth to reach their full potential. The Executive Director will have a background in youth development and be a great asset for the organization.

The SMYAL LGBT Youth Leadership Awards recognize outstanding LGBTQ student leaders and provide scholarship money to offset the cost of continuing education. These scholarships are awarded at the college or university level. They cover tuition, materials, and school travel. A total of $25,000 is awarded each year to 5-8 student leaders. The Sophie Magerl Live Out Loud Award honors a young person who lived out their identity and expressed it creatively.

As SMYAL’s Executive Director, you’ll be responsible for the organization’s mission and vision. In partnership with the Board of Directors, you’ll ensure that policies and programs advance inclusion and equity. You’ll also work closely with the organization’s development team to set and implement fundraising strategies. Finally, you’ll be responsible for overseeing program operations. The Executive Director will be responsible for developing and overseeing the organization’s work culture.

The awards are given to high school seniors in California who have shown commitment to the LGBTQ community. The winning student must have been actively involved in raising awareness about LGBT issues, combating homophobia, and educating the community on similar topics. The deadline for applications is May 15, 2014.

The eQuality Scholarship Collaborative also gives out scholarships to students in California who are LGBT or allied. It also supports programs and projects that promote understanding of GLBT individuals and the LGBTQ community. In addition to the scholarships, the eQuality Scholarship Collaborative awards financial support for LGBTQ students who are residents of Orange County. If you’re a student from either of these areas, you’ll have the opportunity to win a scholarship valued at up to $2000.
