The young womens leadership academy is a unique, dynamic learning environment that fosters critical thinking, builds confidence, and develops leadership skills in young women. This program prepares girls for college, career, and life. While the curriculum is primarily academic, it also offers opportunities for small-group work, collaboration, and networking.
Students at YWLA have access to Chromebooks in the classroom, and teachers integrate technology into the curriculum. Students also take part in elective courses, physical education classes, and special interest clubs. The curriculum is challenging and college-prep, and all courses are taught in a single-gender environment.
The young womens leadership academy is the first all-girls K-5 public school in San Antonio, which focuses on STEM, social-emotional learning, and leadership. It is modeled after the nationally-recognized Young Women’s Leadership Academy and opened in the fall of 2019. It will serve grades kinder through first grade in the first year, and then expand to include grades six to ten.
The school has received approval from the Midland ISD School Board for an expansion. The program, which started in February of 2019, will now teach students in grades nine and 10. Students at the school will have the opportunity to become future leaders of the United States. The expansion of the academy was approved by the board on March 25.
