Widespread Panic Plays Dirty Business

Date:

Share post:

The band has played widespread panic dirty business on a few occasions since the late ’90s, but only very rarely. The 2011 Grand Targhee set sandwiched “The Last Straw” and “Fishwater” marked the band’s first Dirty Business performance in over a year. The band has only played the track six times since then. Here are a few of the other occasions they’ve played Dirty Business live.

John Dawson-Penned Cover

The John Dawson-penned “widespread panic dirty business” has become a classic in the world of punk rock, with the band performing it during a July 2011 performance at the Grand Targhee resort in Alta, Wyoming. The band has shared clips of their performance from both the early ’80s and more recent shows, including their run at Red Rocks last year. The “Dirty Business” clip is the first of four clips from the band’s performance at this legendary venue.

Mempho Festival Performance

The Mempho Music Festival in Memphis, Tennessee, will feature the return of widespread panic dirty business, kings of psychedelic jam rock. The band headlined the festival last weekend, playing a two-hour set to an audience of over 10,000 people. They’ll be joined by Billy Strings, Lucinda Williams, and City Champs. Other artists on the lineup include The City Champs and Julien Baker.

The band opened the night with originals, including “Ain’t Life Grand.” The song morphed into a monster, and JB did a greasy version of Howlin’ Wolf’s “Smokestack Lightning.” Jimmy Herring soared on “Saint Ex,” while Dave Schools kept things grounded with a wombo-based song called “Little Lily.”

Cover of Buffalo Springfield’s “For What It’s Worth”

The cover of Buffalo Springfield’s “For What Its Worth” has gone viral over the last several days, thanks to the band’s drummer, Josh Turner. Stills penned the song, which is best known as an anti-war protest song. Its lyrics, written by Stephen Stills, were inspired by a confrontation he had witnessed in Los Angeles. At the time, the Sunset Strip was a bustling boulevard, and a hub of rock counterculture. The Buffalo Springfield were an integral part of the counterculture and made their mark in this environment.

The lyrics of “For What It’s Worth” are largely unclear. While stills claimed that the band wanted to write the song to protest curfews and censorship, it is also a protest song that has relevance today. Despite the ambiguity of Stills’ intentions, Buffalo Springfield’s cover of the classic protest song is a powerful example of the power of music.

Testing Positive for COVID-19

As the fear of COVID-19 spreads, Chinese health officials are scrambling to contain the disease. While the CDC is working to make the virus less dangerous, the widespread panic dirty business is affecting the elderly and young alike. Fortunately, the virus does not appear to be as harmful as initially believed. But with a poor immune system, elderly people are especially vulnerable to the virus. Meanwhile, a foreign resident in Shanghai was recently accused of COVID-positive status when his test result did not upload properly. Building management stopped the delivery of food to him. Other residents claim that the demands violated his privacy.

The disease spread in a variety of ways, but one of the most worrying is the way people were treated. In Singapore, a ‘Circuit Breaker’ was put in place from 3 April until 1 June 2020 to prevent COVID-19 infections. Non-essential businesses were closed, school classes were shifted online, and dormitories were locked. While the majority of cases declined over the three-day period, the widespread panic about the disease has only increased cases.
