NOEW is an annual event, produced by The Idea Village, a nonprofit dedicated to advancing entrepreneurial activities in New Orleans. The event also features a town hall, panels, networking sessions, and other events to help entrepreneurs grow their businesses and make a positive impact on the city. New Orleans art and culture are also prominently featured, with a free multi-media art installation. The top prize for IDEApitch broke a record for its kind in New Orleans, and across the nation. The winner, 2022 VILLAGEx, based in the city’s Eastside neighborhood, won a prize of more than $400,000. The startup’s CEO, Jamm Around, was the first Black entrepreneur to receive an IDEApitch award. During the event, attendees got to meet the founders of some of the city’s most successful startups.

New orleans pitch Competition

Each year, NOEW hosts multiple pitch competitions in different areas of the city to highlight the entrepreneurial activity and diversity of the region. The pitch competitions are hosted by various organizations that have ties to the New Orleans startup community. One competition is devoted to businesses that relocated from other areas of Louisiana to the Crescent City. Another competition is centered on women-led businesses. Those competing can expect to see some great ideas presented by some of the area’s most successful entrepreneurs.

The Coulter IDEApitch, the closing event of NOEW, is a showcase of three startup companies from the region. The event features prominent investors and Jim Coulter, founder of TPG Capital. The winners of this competition will be awarded $100,000 in capital. The competition has become one of the premier entrepreneurship events in the region. And while a competition like this doesn’t require any prior experience, it is not limited to entrepreneurs – it’s open to anyone!

This year’s theme is “Building Local Innovation, Future of Work.” The week will also feature a free job fair and showcase local entrepreneurial and technology companies. During the event, attendees will have access to front stage seats and complimentary Abita beer. The agenda will also include workshops, panel discussions, and networking opportunities. During the first day of the conference, attendees can attend the Kickoff Party at the Hotel St. Vincent. Live jazz will be performed by the UNO Department of Music graduate students. This week is dedicated to promoting local entrepreneurs and fostering local business development. Demo Day: The closing event of NOEW will showcase companies with an entrepreneurial focus, and features speakers from around the country. For example, Lucid CEO Corey Schroeder will be speaking alongside Daryn Dodson, managing director of Illumen Capital, and Michael Lynton, chairman and CEO of Snap, Inc. The Runway Project founder Jessica Norwood will also present her startup to the crowd.

New Orleans Entrepreneur Week is a premier event that brings together both established and emerging businesses in the city. Webster Pierce, the founder of Pierce Industries, introduced the company WaveRobber, which uses nanoparticles to break down contaminants in water. He has seven minutes to pitch his water-cleaning technology. His five-minute presentation includes questions from judges. He has a personality that makes him seem like a good ol’ boy from southern Louisiana, who has seen his native city slowly melt into the Gulf of Mexico. The second annual Demo Day is part of New Orleans Entrepreneur Week. The event kicks off Monday and runs through March 25. Attendees can attend all events for free. It is hosted at various locations around the city, including the Ace Hotel, Gallier Hall, the Hotel Peter & Paul, and the Hotel St. Vincent. Entrepreneur Week is free and open to the public. After the Demo Day, attendees are invited to pitch their startups to investors.

The 4.0 Schools education pitch competition included teams that created software for schools and sought to involve students, teachers, and parents in the design process. In addition to the students, there were also a few adult entrants who pitched their startups. A judge panel and audience vote were used to select a winner. The winner received $2,500 and a coveted trophy. The event also gave away additional cash to start educational ventures that have the potential to grow in the city.

Among the many events during New Orleans Entrepreneur Week are the 4.0 Schools Education Pitch Competition and the Southeast Louisiana Energy Initiative. NOEW is also co-hosted by local nonprofit partners like the Downtown Development District, the Urban League of Greater New Orleans, and the Creative Alliance of New Orleans. On Thursday, March 26, the LookFar Tent at Manning’s will feature leading entrepreneurs in the community paying it forward. At this event, participating entrepreneurs will demonstrate their products, mentor students, and show off their services. The event is free to attend and will take place in Manning’s courtyard on Fulton Street.

The competition is part of a larger initiative to engage the New Orleans ecosystem network. Cox Business/Inc. "Get Started" Pitch Competition

The winning company in the Cox Business/Inc. “Get Started” pitch competition during New Orleans Entrepreneur Week is Drytunes, a startup that makes waterproof wireless speakers. The competition, which was held March 25 at the Chicory Building in downtown New Orleans, showcased local entrepreneurial talent. The winning company received $10,000 in cash and services from Cox Business and a year of PR and technology services from AR-PR.

The Get Started Louisiana competition is a $10,000 pitch competition that will feature startups from the Greater New Orleans region. The event is sponsored by Cox Business/Inc. magazine and is open to entrepreneurs from any industry. Startups presenting at the competition include Happy Mop, which has developed a self-rinsing mopping system, and Haring Laboratories, which has developed technology that helps carbon-burning cars run cooler.

To be considered for a pitch competition, startups must be under 300k in revenue. To compete, applicants must submit a 250-word pitch description. The company must have had less than $300k in revenue during the last year. The chosen five companies will be notified on Mar. 11. The five finalists will receive two coaching sessions before the competition.

Tulane Business Model Competition

The Tulane Business Model Competition, which celebrates the local entrepreneurial ecosystem, is returning for its sixth year in April. This year’s competition emphasizes validation of business models through field research. Ventures are encouraged to break down their ideas into key hypotheses, test those hypotheses with customers, and apply lean startup and customer development principles. The competition is held at the Stewart Center for Executive Education. During the last two years, more than 90 ventures have applied to compete for prize money.

The competition is open to degree-seeking entrepreneurs and startups. The deadline for submitting applications is 11:59 p.m. CST on Monday, Jan. 25, 2021. The competition, which is held by the Tulane Albert Lepage Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation, has awarded hundreds of thousands of dollars to student startups.
