The 70 graduates of the Class XXXV of Leadership Detroit will participate in the annual commencement ceremony at the Garden Theatre in downtown D.C. on June 5. This year’s class includes representatives from many industries in the Detroit region. Mackinac Policy Conference
The Mackinac Policy Conference at Leadership Detroit is the premier forum to connect community leaders to address Michigan’s most pressing issues. This year’s theme is “COVID-19: Economic Recovery, Racial Justice, and Overall Community Health.” The agenda includes panel discussions and nationally recognized speakers. To attend, all guests must show proof of immunization. The event is open to community leaders from across the state. After the pandemic ended, the conference returned in September 2022.
This year’s conference is already drawing national and statewide thought leaders and business leaders. This year’s keynote speakers will address the challenges facing Michigan’s economy and growth. Connection Point program
The Connection Point program at Leadership Detroit is an economic development initiative that connects Michigan suppliers with large potential customers. By developing strategic partnerships, the program creates new sales and opportunities for businesses to diversify their customer base and sustain economic growth. The program is sponsored by the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Economic Development Administration. Participants will travel to Washington, D.C., to meet with government officials and private sector companies. At the same time, Connection Point will explore partnership opportunities with the Detroit Regional Chamber.
Recently, the Connection Point program at Leadership Detroit was able to make headlines after a proposal for a U.S. Patent and Trademark Office branch at 300 River Place. The proposed branch is expected to create 100 high-paying jobs, and will boost Detroit’s economy. Business leaders in the city were quick to take notice of this opportunity and applied for it. The program connects Michigan suppliers with buyers and pursues new business opportunities across various industries.
The program is part of the Pure Michigan Business Connect portfolio. It was developed by Trevor Pawl, a Crain’s 40 under 40 award winner who started his new job with the Michigan Economic Development Corp. in January. Since then, Connection Point has helped Michigan businesses secure more than $200 million in bid opportunities from companies outside the state. The Detroit Regional Chamber is proud to announce the names of the newest members of its Class XLII. The program brings together 60 senior executives from all sectors of the metro Detroit community for a six-month transformational leadership development program. Applications for 2021-2022 cohort of Leadership Detroit
The 2021-2022 Leadership Detroit cohort will focus on community engagement and resilience. The program will build on the history and culture of resilience in Detroit’s North End by providing new tools and infrastructure, and increased resources through an intimate network of peers. Members of the cohort will have the opportunity to build their organizational and leadership skills through workshops, one-on-one coaching, and peer-led initiatives. The program is designed to give participants the tools to effectively engage in the nonprofit sector.
The program is open to individuals from all backgrounds and industries. It features a diverse group of professionals, including executive coaches and business leaders, who are dedicated to creating change in the community. In addition to learning about the latest trends and innovations in business and society, participants will learn about issues outside of the business sector. In addition, Leadership Detroit participants will be introduced to issues and organizations outside of their industry. These discussions will foster a sense of community, a sense of purpose, and an appreciation of others’ contributions.
