Cobb Youth Leadership is a leadership development program for high school juniors in Cobb County, Georgia. Participants develop networks of peers across the county and meet with local and regional leaders to discuss topics such as health, arts, and public safety. BUY-Cobb alumni include Staff Sgt. Ryan Shwartz, a reconnaissance NCO, and Staff Sgt. Bert Thompson, who leads a survey team. Together, these young leaders are co-chairs of Cobb Youth Leadership. These alumni have gone on to attend some of the nation’s finest institutions of higher learning, and they now hold positions in diverse fields. Before attending Cobb Youth Leadership, many participants stumbled when speaking, changing what they were saying. Now, however, they are confident and articulate in expressing their thoughts and feelings.
The Cobb Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring the Cobb Youth Leadership program. Students enrolled in this program gain valuable leadership skills and meet state, county, and national leaders. Students also get to meet students from other schools in the community, fostering relationships between students that will benefit the entire community. Participants must be residents of Cobb County or attend school in the county. Once accepted, they are encouraged to share their experience with their peers. They will also gain valuable networking opportunities, which will benefit them in their future endeavors.

If you are currently in high school, consider applying for the Cobb Youth Leadership program. The program is for current high school sophomores and will last through your junior year. Students must submit an application by Friday, April 15, 2022, in order to be considered for the class. Interested students should visit the Cobb Chamber of Commerce website to complete the application. Once accepted, students will be assigned to a class of approximately 50 peers. Once a selected group of students has been chosen, the students will learn more about the community.

The Cobb Youth Leadership program is now accepting applications for its 2021-2022 class. It is an excellent leadership development program for high school juniors, providing an opportunity for students to get involved in their community. The program builds networks of peers throughout the county, and participants will meet with local and regional leaders on a monthly basis to discuss community issues. Topics will range from public safety and social services to politics and the arts. While this program is primarily for students in Cobb County, it is also open to homeschoolers.
Students enrolled in the Cobb Youth Leadership Program receive scholarships for their participation. Scholarships can range from $1,500 to $5,000, and will cover expenses for two retreats. The program includes two weekends away from home, where participants learn about leadership, personality inventories, and team building. It is offered on a monthly basis from August to April, with evening programs every other month. The program concludes with a spring retreat. The tuition is $700.
