The institute for transformational leadership (ITL) is an innovative, multi-year program that aims to transform the academic performance and educational environment of the St. Louis metropolitan area. The Institute’s Human-Centered School Transformation Model places deeper learning at its core. The program challenges traditional classroom practices by involving students in highly engaging learning tasks that require collaboration and application of knowledge in real-world settings. SAIL builds the leadership skills of educators to lead transformational change in their organizations.

The 2022 Institute will feature several keynote speakers, including national trainer, coach and author Kate Ebner. She will kick off the event with remarks on “Leadership for Success.” Kate Ebner specializes in leadership and transformational change and has spent nearly a decade developing the model. In addition, she is the founder and CEO of The Nebo Company, an innovative leadership consultancy in Washington, DC. While at the Institute, she will deliver a keynote address and be part of a panel discussion on the future of leadership and change.

The Transformative Leadership program focuses on the concept of ethical leadership. Students learn how to apply the concepts of success and living a life of extraordinary fulfillment in different contexts. Transformative Leadership facilitators provide opportunities to define success and develop their personal leadership signature. In addition, the Institute emphasizes ethical leadership as a foundational skill. This program enables students to develop the skills necessary for future leaders to effectively lead change and create a positive impact on the world.

McLaughlin is a developmentally focused leadership coach. She has more than 20 years of experience leading transformational shifts in organizations and supporting emerging and transitioning leaders. She is a published author and an accredited leadership coach. She is also an international retreat leader and co-director of the Georgetown University Institute for Transformational Leadership. She has a doctorate in education from the Harvard Graduate School of Education. This program teaches leaders how to develop empathy, mindfulness, and effective communication skills.

IFTL offers a wide range of customized learning programs to help leaders develop the skills and mindsets they need to lead transformational change in organizations. Ebner spent nearly ten years developing her transformational leadership model and is now the CEO of The Nebo Company, a leadership development consulting firm in Washington, DC. To help individuals and organizations lead with intention and purpose, the institute offers a variety of programs and certificate programs.

The program was originally designed by MIT Sloan School and the Yale School of Management, and has since been adopted by many leading management schools and technology-driven environments. It explores how to align personal values with professional success, and develops reflective thinking skills necessary for ethical leadership. Valerie McLaughlin, a recovering academic with over twenty years of experience leading transformational change in organizations, has coached emerging leaders and transitioning leaders for over a decade. She is a PCC-certified leadership coach, international retreat leader, and is a Co-Director of Georgetown University’s Institute for Transformational Leadership. She holds a doctorate in education. Valerie McLaughlin, M.Ed., is a recovering academic with over twenty years of experience leading organizational transformations. She has helped emerging and transitioning leaders in both corporate and nonprofit settings. She’s written several books on leadership, and is a PCC-accredited leader coach. The Institute for Transformational Leadership is founded by three leaders with different backgrounds. The first is John Bell, a Buddhist Dharma Teacher who lives in Massachusetts. He’s a social justice activist and international training facilitator. His second is Dia Bui, a queer Vietnamese Buddhist and a creative strategist with over fifteen years of experience. They work closely together to create a platform where leaders can grow their skills and influence.
