Youth Entrepreneurs Atlanta Recognizes Outstanding

NFTE has been recognizing outstanding young entrepreneurs since 2006, and the annual Youth Entrepreneurship Challenge is no exception. The program has trained more than 1,000 teachers and students in the Youth Entrepreneurs Atlanta area. Winners of this competition include Amylah Charles, a 17-year-old from Los Angeles with her business, CurlyCrownz. CurlyCrownz offers 100% natural products for people with curly hair. Also, Madelyn Jackson, 17, of Chicago, is a runner-up.

TiE Atlanta, an entrepreneurial support organization, is hosting sixteen high school and university entrepreneur teams in the 2018 competition. The competition is designed to impart business skills to Georgia youth and provides mentoring. In fact, over 350 student teams have graduated from the program since 2010.

Young Entrepreneurs Atlanta has been helping young adults like Carter launch their businesses for three years. The program has helped them learn about the entrepreneurial process, interact with successful entrepreneurs, and participate in paid internships. For instance, Troxler worked at the organization’s administrative offices while Charles worked as a photographer at Georgia Pacific Studios. Both students have their own businesses, and the program helped them get their start by providing them with valuable skills. By the end of the three-week program, they’ll be able to begin marketing and advertising their products and services.

Youth Entrepreneurs Atlanta is modeled after a similar program in Kansas, Youth Entrepreneurs Kansas. The Kansas program was founded by Elizabeth Koch, a Georgia-Pacific executive. The foundation raised more than $9 million and is now expanding its efforts to DeKalb County public schools. The program has grown to serve over 1,500 students in Atlanta and DeKalb public schools. It will soon expand to other areas of Georgia. The program is a great model for expanding entrepreneurial education and empowering youth to become future leaders.

Georgia-Pacific Foundation funds Youth Entrepreneurs Atlanta. The foundation’s $1 million gift will fund the program’s teacher training, curriculum development, and outreach to students in grades 10 and 11. The program also includes out-of-classroom initiatives for students, including paid internships, social events, and summer economics seminars. This program is aimed at inspiring students to pursue their dreams of owning their own businesses. It also encourages them to be more entrepreneurial and take responsibility of their own lives.

YEGeorgia students learn the art of business from a variety of perspectives. As students engage in business activities in a year-long program, they develop teamwork skills that will be invaluable in the business world. They are taught to be accountable for their actions and execute a real-world business plan. They learn about the competitive nature of business, and they learn lessons that transcend the classroom. They’ll never look back.
